Brief Description:
The Evolutionary Computing Session of the 9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI 2010) invites the submission of original and unpublished research papers. This special session will provide a common forum for researchers and practitioners interested in metaheuristic optimization algorithms such as evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms together to exchange their ideas and report their latest findings. All accepted papers in this session will be included in the Proceedings of the ICCI'10 published by IEEE CS Press and indexed by EI and DBLP. Selected papers will be considered for publication in EAAI and other reputable journals.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- evolutionary algorithms such as genetic algorithms, genetic programming, evolution strategies, differential evolution, and estimation of distribution algorithms
- artificial life
- particle swarm optimization
- ant colony optimization
- integration of evolutionary computing techniques in intelligent systems
- implementation issues of evolutionary computing techniques
- evolutionary computing approaches for multi-objective optimization
- evolutionary computing approaches in knowledge discovery, natural language processing, image processing, pattern recognition, time series prediction, planning and scheduling, vehicle and arc routing problems, information security, etc
- applications of evolutionary computing in science and engineering problems
Instructions for Authors:
Prospective authors are invited to submit full papers (6-8 pages) and short papers (4-5 pages) in IEEE double column format as posted at http://www.icci2010.edu.cn. Papers in electronic form should be sent to rchiong@swin.edu.au and tweise@ustc.edu.cn. The papers must also be submitted online at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icci2010.

Hosting Event: The 9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI 2010)
Cognitive Informatics (CI) is a cutting-edge and transdisciplinary research area that tackles the fundamental problems shared by modern informatics, computing, AI, cybernetics, computational intelligence, cognitive science, neuropsychology, medical science, systems science, software engineering, telecommunications, knowledge engineering, philosophy, linguistics, economics, management science, and life sciences. CI is a transdisciplinary enquiry on the internal information processing mechanisms and processes of the natural intelligence - human brains and minds - and their engineering applications in cognitive computing, computational intelligence, as well as the information/communication technology and software industries.
The development and the cross fertilization between the aforementioned science and engineering disciplines have led to a whole range of extremely interesting new research areas known as CI. Following the first eight successful conferences on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'02 through ICCI'09), the 9th IEEE Int'l Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10) focuses on the theme of Cognitive Computing and Cognitive Communications. ICCI'10 welcomes researchers, practitioners, and graduate students to join the international cognitive informatics and cognitive computing initiative toward the investigation of cognitive mechanisms and processes of human information processing, and the development of next generation computers that learn and think.

Beijing, the capital of China, is among the most famous cultural and historic cities in the world. It owns hundreds of temples, ancient houses, museums, and parks. The top attractions of Beijing are the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, the Tian'anmen Square, and the Ming Tombs. The Great Wall with its worldwide fame is a historical must-see place. The Forbidden City, also known as the Imperial Palace, is a city-within-a-city where the emperor used to reside. The Summer Palace is the largest royal park with lots of towers, temples, pavilions, bridges, and corridors.
